Former NAACP leader who posed as black woman accused of welfare fraud

Rachel Dolezal is now facing charges of felony theft in Washington state after allegedly lying to secure over $9,000 in government welfare assistance.

News station KHQ-TV in Spokane, Washington, reported that Ms Dolezal came under investigation after it became known she had published a book.

The Jasmine Brand reports the former NAACP chapter president, who changed her name to Nkechi Diallo in 2016, allegedly made false statements on government forms with the intent of defrauding the welfare system. The beleaguered activist has now been accused of committing welfare fraud when she applied for public assistance past year, according to the Hill.

Just another reason she's one of those celebs we just wish we'd never heard of...

Dolezal could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted, according to KHQ. Court documents said her bank statements showed Dolezal had deposited $83,924.96 in her bank account between August 2015 and September 2017.

According to KXLY Spokane, Dolezal has been charged with welfare fraud after investigators discovered she failed to report part of her self-employment income.

Rachel Dolezal has proven to be a woman of many manipulations, so faking it until she (almost) makes it may very well be her calling.

According to court documents, between August 1, 2015 and November 30, 2017 Dolezal obtained public assistance when she was not entitled to it. Records said she received $8,747 in food assistance and $100 in childcare assistance illegally.

"The state of Washington seeks prosecution and restitution in this matter".

She said in 2017 that while she might be "Caucasian biologically" she nevertheless "had an authentic black identity".

She will be arraigned on the charges on June 6.

Dolezal is the subject of a Netflix documentary called "The Rachel Divide", which was released in April.

The story became an worldwide sensation, and she was sacked as head of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP and kicked off a police ombudsman commission.
