8 pedestrians injured by taxi on sidewalk in Moscow

Police have detained the taxi driver who had a Kyrgyz driving license, the Moscow traffic authority wrote on social media. Authorities say the driver lost control of the vehicle. Police initially said eight were injured, but later said seven had sought medical attention.

Witnesses say a number of the injured were wearing the Mexican football team's colors. Two Mexican nationals, who had come to Russian Federation for the World Cup, were among the injured in the incident. "He was shouting: "It wasn't me".

Interfax news agency cited a source as saying on Saturday that the driver was drunk at the time of the incident, which occurred near Red Square.

The following is footage published on a Russian news station's Twitter account, showing the incident and then the driver attempting to flee the scene, but he was quickly apprehended.

The accident took place on Ilinka Street, about 200 metres from Red Square and Moscow's famous Gum shopping arcade.
