AMC, which has blocked MoviePass sales at some of its theaters, has been a vocal opponent of MoviePass' model.

Theatres, the world's largest movie theater chain, has unveiled a $20-a-month subscription service to rival the flagging MoviePass. Further, the addition of Imax to AMC Stubs A-List program will not impact the large format exhibitor's studio arrangements and the incremental attendance should result in increased revenues.

While MoviePass is a cheaper option, Variety said AMC will also offer their subscribers screenings in IMAX, Dolby Cinema and RealD. The service, which will cost $19.95 per month, gets you access to the very best of AMC up to 3 times per week, including multiple movies per day and repeat visits to already-seen movies.

The three ticket cap resets every Friday morning with no carryovers or blackouts, and subscribers can even use all three ticket slots on the same day with a two-hour gap in between each showtime.

The new AMC Stubs A-List program will allow members to pay $19.95 per month, which grants entrance to up to three "regular" movies each week.

AMC's Stub A List Plan is set to launch on June 26 and interested users will be able to sign up via AMC's website.

Beginning Tuesday, the theater chain is adding a new tier to its current AMC Stubs rewards program called AMC Stubs A-List. Will AMC Theaters lose money on this service? The glaringly obvious advantages that MoviePass has over "Stubs A-List" are that it's half the cost and you can see movies at whatever theater you want. It comes with a handful of other perks, including some free food upgrades, express service at the box office and concession stand and no online ticketing fees. AMC's announcement also took some more digs at MoviePass, stating "No waiting after enrollment and no special credit card to be carried, AMC Stubs A-List is web- and smartphone-based".
