Porsche has now given an official name to its upcoming electric sedan that has until now been known as the "Mission E".

According to the company, the name has oriental origins and is roughly translated as "lively young horse", referencing Porsche's logo. Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG said, "Our new electric sports auto is strong and dependable; it's a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom".

Blume also explained that Porsche's electric vehicle would be capable of updating its software over wi-fi and might offer Tesla-style downloadable power upgrades.

The "Mission E" concept study, the name now used to describe Porsche's complete electric offering, will be known as the Taycan.

Powering the auto is two permanently excited synchronous motors with a total system output of over 600bhp.

You might think that this level of performance requires the vehicle's electric range to be compromised but Porsche is saying otherwise. Porsche announced the name for its first purely electric series as part of the “70 years of sports cars” ceremony. Macan is taken from the Indonesian word for tiger, while Cayenne denotes fieriness.

Trump After Kim Summit
Asked by Van Susteren about human rights abuses, Trump replied: "Look, he's doing what he's seen done, if you look at it". There was some confusion in the USA over precisely what military cooperation Mr Trump had promised to halt.

The existing engine plant is being expanded to manufacture electric drives and the body shop will also be developed. The electric four-door is to spearhead Porsche's long-term electrification plans, with a range of plug-in hybrids and full EVs set to join it in the future.

Production of the Taycan is expected to commence in 2019.
