Awkward moments at G7 summit

German Chancellor Angela Merkel

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Saturday that G7 leaders had agreed on the wording of a common statement at their ongoing summit which would include a commitment to a "rules-based" trade framework.

"Day two of the G7 summit in Canada: spontaneous meeting between two working sessions", Merkel captioned the post, tagging President Trump, British Prime Minister Theresa May, and French President Emmanuel Macron.

"By any reckoning we will have a final communique", Merkel told journalists on the final day of the summit in Canada, which has been held amid anger towards the U.S. for imposing tariffs on allies, circumventing the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the process.

The image was shared shortly after Trump held a press conference before departing the summit to head to Singapore for his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The president also denied the G7 meetings were contentious but maintained his confrontational stance.

Trump takes to Twitter talking tougher trade tariffs on G7 allies
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin declined to sign a joint G-7 statement last week at a meeting with finance ministers. Trump does not intend to withdraw from NAFTA, National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow said on "Fox & Friends".

The former engaged in a Twitter argument with Mr Trump this week over new USA tariffs on steel and aluminium which will affect the EU, Canada and Mexico.

"But we have a way to go in order to get to a common position that is ambitious and targeted", Le Maire said, noting that Europe needed "the means" to foster closer economic convergence and to react to crises.

While we may never know what was being said while this picture was taken, all signs point to Merkel enthusiastically screaming, "BOY BYE!" at Trump's plane as it flew away from the summit. "Now, the relationship that I've had is great, so you can tell that to your fake friends at CNN".

Elsewhere, French president Emmanuel Macron's bromance with his American frenemy appears to be over, as he stares at Mr Trump with a disbelieving expression. "I would say the relationship is a 10", Trump said.

Trump left the summit early, as planned, before the leaders discussed climate change.
