Perennially among the favorites to win the FIFA World Cup, Brazil will open the 2018 tournament against Switzerland at 1 p.m. CDT Sunday in a Group E match at Rostov Arena in Rostov-on-Don, Russia.

Philippe Coutinho gave Brazil the lead in the 20th minute with a volley that bounced in off the right post.

Switzerland's Steven Zuber heads the equaliser in a 1-1 draw with World Cup favourites Brazil.

They took the lead on 20 minutes when Neymar's run down that flank left space for Coutinho to work in.

Fred, who will cost United a reported £52m, has won eight caps for Brazil since making his senior debut back in 2014. While Brazil has enough talent to go far without him, they'll need Neymar to continue that form to win it all. They didn't look dominant during this match - and the talismanic Neymar didn't look entirely fit most of the time.

The game slowed down a bit after the opening goal as Switzerland controlled the flow of the game and Brazil seemed content to sit back in defence.

Maradona is never far from controversy and it looks like he may have landed himself into the middle of another controversy. Things then reportedly took an ugly turn, as he appeared to make a racist gesture to some Korean fans in the crowd.

50' - GOAL! Brazil 1-1 Switzerland.

Paulinho passed up a glorious chance when his scuffed effort from close range was turned behind by Yann Sommer. Shaqiri swings it in and Zuber meets it with a powerful smack of a header.

Switzerland haven't lost their opening World Cup match in any of their last five tournaments (W2 D3).

With Granit Xhaka in the middle and Breel Embolo and Xherdan Shaqiri in the attack, the sixth-ranked team in the world will look to pile more World Cup misery onto its opponent.

Steven Zuber has been directly involved in six goals in his last six global starts for Switzerland (four goals, two assists).
