Clippers trading Austin Rivers for Wizards big man

The Clippers have reportedly traded guard Austin Rivers to the Wizards for center Marcin Gortat, according to a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Rivers played three-plus seasons for his father, Doc Rivers, with the Clippers.

The Wizards have been looking to move the 6-foot-11 Gortat. The 25-year-old averaged 15.1 points and 4.0 assists in 61 games (59 starts), missing the entire month of January with a right Achilles tendon injury.

The first domino of the National Basketball Association offseason appears to have fallen in Los Angeles. If Jordan opts-in on his $24.7 million contract, it's believed that he and the Clippers would find a trade to get him out of Los Angeles to a different team. Doc has since lost some of his power, and Jerry West and Lawrence Frank are now in control - and free to trade Austin Rivers.

Both Rivers and Gortat are now in the final year of their contracts, and will become free agents after next season.

Gortat has one season remaining on his deal at $13.6 million.

If Jordan opts out, he can leave and the Clippers would receive nothing if he signs elsewhere.
