Outcry as Indian film body readmits actor accused of kidnap plot

Malayalam actor Dileep who has been charged in actress abduction and assault case has been welcomed back into AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes) after Mohanlal's appointment as its new President. Dileep is one of the accused in the Malayalam actor's assault case. The survivor in the case has also quit the AMMA.

"Prior to this, this actor has snatched away opportunities of acting from me".

CPM veteran V S Achuthanandan has appreciated the four women actors who resigned from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Now, when such an unfortunate incident happened in my life, the organisation again tried to protect the accused. "I realise it is no use being a part of such an organisation any more".

In a Facebook page of Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), the actresses said they are leaving the association. AMMA, the organisation has been functioning from 1995 onwards.

"This organisation failed to take any action when I reported the matter", she wrote, signing off by using her name. The organisation has taken a very deceitful and inhuman stance against our colleague who has suffered a gruesome assault. Primarily, I believe in being a good human being.

The person injury attorney and longtime season-ticket holder has funded more than 40 billboards around the L.A. area . The NBA free agency frenzy starts on July 1 and teams are gearing up to pitch several high profile free agents.

Geetu Mohandas in her note to the film body said, "I am resigning from AMMA". I'm not leaving "AMMA" for just this one problem. I should have done this long back. It is tough to question their decisions when being part of it. Our voices are getting drowned there. This can not be allowed to continue. "I will strongly stand with my friend who faced such a brutal assault, and I will fight for her from outside in the future", posted Geethu Mohandas.

The Women in Cinema Collective had objected to the AMMA literally paving the way for the return of Dileep, who was sacked in July previous year when the special investigation team probing the case arrested him for hiring the goons. However, several senior actors had spoken out in support of him recently.

The actor, who has worked in Tamil and Telugu films, was allegedly abducted and molested in her auto for two hours by the accused, who had forced their way into the vehicle on the night of February 17, 2017 and later escaped in a busy area. According to the Indian Express, "A skit was performed at the AMMA Mazhavillu show by six women artistes which took potshots at the WCC".

Sajitha Madathil, actress and a member of the Collective, told a Malayalam channel the resignations were a collective decision to express solidarity with the survivor who got a raw deal from the AMMA.
