Beilein was a candidate for the Detroit Pistons' head-coaching vacancy, having twice met with the organization, including an interview in Detroit as recently as last Thursday.

After two conversations with the Pistons, the MI head coach announced on Twitter today that he's "excited about coaching (Michigan) next season and in the years to come".

The Detroit Pistons are without a head coach, general manager or team president - but at least one of those roles could be filled soon.

With Beilein back, MI is well positioned to extend its momentum next season. The 65-year-old is Michigan's all-time coaching wins leader with a 248-143 record in 11 seasons at the school.

Beilein has led to the team to two national championship game appearances, two Big Ten regular season titles and two Big Ten Tournament championships.

A source tells The Athletic that Beilein and the school have almost finalized a two-year extension on his previous three-year contract.

The Pistons have made the playoffs only once in nine years after advancing at least to the Eastern Conference finals six straight years, winning the 2004 National Basketball Association title and falling a victory short of repeating as champions in 2005.

One of basketball's most innovative offensive minds will be staying at the college level.

MI fans will be pleased to hear Beilein isn't going anywhere.

Just previous year, MI was the nation's runner-up after a tough national title loss to a stacked Villanova roster.

"I don't want John Beilein to coach anywhere else, and he knows that", Manuel said this offseason. "And, maybe that's why I'm still coaching".
