Kangaroo stops play during Australian soccer match

For the third time in recent weeks kangaroos have jumped on to the sporting fields in Canberra

The misguided kangaroo made its first appearance on the field at half time during a match between Canberra's two top teams - Canberra Football Club and Belconnen United.

Australia's national football team may be nicknamed the "Socceroos" but the country's most recognisable marsupial had shown scant interest in the game until a real-life 'roo bounded into the middle of a match.

A kangaroo dashed onto the field and laid down during the halftime break of an Australian women's soccer match.

The woman's premier league football match on Sunday was halted for nearly 20 minutes as the kangaroo jumped fences, sprinted the length of the pitch and laid down in the penalty box, reports Xinhua news agency. He ignored officials attempting to scare him away, and was unmoved by multiple soccer balls tossed his way.

A kangaroo has become the latest social media sensation after invading a football pitch just 2 km from Parliament House in here, Australian authorities said on Monday.

"A few people came close to see if they could maybe get it to move on". It stood up pretty tall. "But I don't think anyone was alarmed too much by it".

Eventually, the Belconnen coach used his auto to chase it away through an open fence, the match resumed, and his side won 2-0.

The suburbs are set in large tracts of woods and grassland.
