A Trump communications aide who joked about U.S. Senator John McCain's battle with brain cancer has left her White House job, a White House spokesman said on Tuesday.

Conway said it is up to Sadler if she wants to remain in the administration, possibly in a Cabinet agency role. Meghan McCain, the senator's daughter, said that Sadler called her to say she was sorry and promised to apologize publicly as well, but never did.

It is not known if Sadler's comments were the cause of her departure at the White House.

The White House Communications aide criticized for making fun of Sen. John McCain's brain cancer, which triggered widespread backlash.

"We respect Senator McCain's service to our nation and he and his family are in our prayers during this hard time", a statement at the time said.
