Whether such projects will amount to anything hinges on whether the Trump-Kim meeting even takes place next week in Singapore. The shuffle was confirmed by an anonymous usa official, who did not identify the outgoing figures, Reuters reports .

And in the "Frunze Academy Affair", elite young officers who had been studying at Moscow's Frunze Academy, and were recalled home after the death of first-generation dictator Kim Il-sung, are believed to have plotted a regime overthrow.

He has undertaken a flurry of diplomatic activity recently, meeting China's president in May, and is expected to attend a summit with Donald Trump this month.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was one of a group of top Democrats to sign a letter for President Trump outlining their demands for his upcoming summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Both countries have faced worldwide isolation, North Korea over its nuclear weapons program, and Syria over its tactics during a bloody civil war.

Other replaced officials include Pak Yong Sik and Ri Myong Su.

"They're all young but capable people", Yang said.

Asked whether legislation similar to the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act is on the table, Schumer indicated it depends on how negotiations with North Korea proceed.
