LeBron James of Cleveland Cavaliers played with significant hand injury

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (30) celebrates with the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy after beating the Cleveland Cavaliers in game four of the 2018 NBA Finals at Quicken Loans Arena. Soon a free agent, many expect James to leave the Cavaliers.

LeBron James played the last three games of this series with a significantly injured right hand, a hand that he injured punching a blackboard in the locker room at Golden State after Game 1.

The Cleveland Cavaliers didn't enter Friday with much hope, trailing the Golden State Warriors 3-0 in the NBA Finals.

Then the league's best team tightened the screws on Cleveland in the third quarter, outscoring the Cavs 25-13 and prompting Golden State fans to begin those drawn-out "War-eee-orrss" chants that provide a flawless musical accompaniment to their 3-point barrages. We can't get enough of this feeling. This will be a sad National Basketball Association once this dynasty is done and on the other side, Lebron is out of the National Basketball Association as well. What a special thing we are witnessing with this franchise. LeBron James started the game looking to involve his teammates and finished with a triple-double of 33 points with 10 rebounds and 11 assists, Kevin Love added 20 points while Rodney Hood provided the spark off the bench with 15 points on seven of 11 shooting. The Cavs scored 13 points, shot 4-of-17, committed five turnovers and trailed by 21.

But Golden State has the present and an inside track on owning the future.

Windhorst said that James did not want the information getting out for fear of the Warriors targeting him on defense or guarding him differently.

The three-time champion revealed he had played the last three matches with a broken right hand, sustained after he scored his best play-off points haul of 51 in the opener.

The Cavs' talisman reportedly suffered the injury after punching a blackboard in frustration after his side spurned an opportunity to win in the final seconds.

"It was self-inflicted", he said. "I was very emotional for a lot of different reasons and I let that get the best of me".

LeBron James led Cleveland with 23 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, but also had six turnovers.

Even the greatest player in the game had to marvel at Kevin Durant's performance on Wednesday night - calling his fellow MVP alum an "assassin" after his Game 3 performance.

"I just think, in the end, what's important to him". He fights and competes to the end. "But after a game like that, I'm not in any position to talk about that".
