The millionaire comedian was sitting in his Range Rover at around 2pm yesterday when the thugs started trying to smash his window with a hammer

Kitty McIntyre said the comic was OK as she left their house in leafy north-west London with one of the couple's children on Tuesday morning in a silver Range Rover.

'And then within seconds they were gone down the hill.

Officers said there are a number of factors behind the upward spike in thefts, including a rise in the number of people using scooters to commute and a growing market for second-hand mobile phone parts.

But she added: 'I have never seen anything like this before. It's not known if the attack was targeting prestige cars, or the comedian specifically.

'I was really shaken after it happened.

The Mail Online reports that a witness said that the comedian, who is thought to be worth £38 million, "fell out of the car" as he attempted to fend off the robbers.

His agent issued saying McIntyre was "absolutely fine".

His wife Kitty has since given an update on Michael after the horrific incident.

The mugging is the latest in a spate of terrifying robberies by moped gangs in London.

He is now on the United Kingdom leg of his Big World Tour. Masked thugs as young as 14 use stolen scooters for their speed and manoeuvrability - and because police are often reluctant to give chase.

The police, who would not comment on the identity of those involved, told Sky News: "The victim was stationary in his vehicle when two males on a moped smashed the auto windows with a hammer before stealing property". No injuries were reported.

Investigators said no arrests have been made and inquiries were continuing.

Anyone with any information about the incident should call police on 101 quoting CAD4018/04JUN or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
