National Basketball Association reportedly could change draft eligibility rules by 2021

According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, the National Basketball Association has sent a memo out to league teams stating that the rule could be ending by 2021 or 2022.

According to USA Today, the league does not anticipate changes to its eligibility rules before the 2021 or 2022 drafts, but nevertheless noted the possibility in the memo.

The memo states that the possible changes are "related to player development and the corruption investigation in college basketball", reports ESPN.

The memo does not specifically mention the "one-and-done" rule, according to Lowe, but that rule is at the heart of the issue.

China slaps more tariffs on $50 bn worth of US goods
No stranger to hosting trade mission trips from other countries, Bartek said he values the chance to meet foreign trade partners. Initially, 545 USA products valued at $34 billion will be targeted, mimicking the tariff rollout by the Trump administration.

Per Lowe, a change in the eligibility rules will lead to a loaded draft when it happens since it will include the top high school recruits of two consecutive classes in a single draft class.

The memo sent out by the league serves as a warning for teams who were thinking of flipping their 1st Round Picks in the coming years, because if the players stay in college an extra year, picks will hold more value since the player pool will double in size.

Prospects are now required to be one year removed from the end of their senior year in high school to enter the draft.

The expanding presence of the NBA's G-League is also a factor in all of this as salaries for the league are increasing and becoming more respectable - giving high school players a viable professional option in the United States instead of college for one year before moving on to the draft. According to a report by Zach Lowe of ESPN, while the memo does not exactly point to the removal of the one-and-done rule, it does imply that it could be gone as soon as 2021. We'll just have to wait and see how this plays out.
