Johnson was racing for the lead on the 18th lap of a 40-lap main event with Daryn Pittman.

"MEMORIAL will be held for Jason Johnson at his JJR Shop where he made his dirt track shop of Dreams. please come out to take part in the get together to tell JJ stories!"

Johnson, who won the 2016 Knoxville Nationals - the sport's biggest race - in Iowa in storybook fashion, had been a primarily part-time racer on various sprint auto circuits from 1998 until he went full-time on the Outlaws series, capturing Rookie of the Year honors in 2015.

Johnson is the second driver in four years to die from injuries sustained in a sprint-car crash at the track, according to the Journal Sentinel.

Johnson was battling Kasey Kahne Racing's Daryn Pittman for the lead on Lap 18 on Saturday when Johnson's vehicle flipped violently heading into Turn 3, hitting billboards (there was no catch fence in that area) and possibly the wall before landing outside the dirt track.

Exposure to radiation, carcinogens puts flight attendants at high risk of cancer
A study of more than 5,000 US flight attendants has shown they have higher rates of certain cancers than the general public. Among female flight attendants, the rate of breast cancer was 50% higher when compared to the general population.

Johnson's biggest career win came at the 2016 Knoxville Nationals, the Super Bowl of sprint vehicle racing, and it came just six days after Clauson's death.

Condolences poured in on social media. "My heart goes out to Jason, his family, his friends, his competitors and his fans".

World of Outlaws announced Johnson's passing at 8:36 a.m. local time.

The racing community has seen several drivers die in crashes in recent years. "RIP Jason, our thoughts and prayers are with Bobbi, Jaxx, their family and team".
