Philadelphia bids to host 2026 World Cup matches

Ahead of tomorrow's World Cup in Russia, FIFA has announced that the U.S., Mexico, and Canada have won a joint bid to host the 2026 World Cup, reports NBC.

The North America bid received 134 of the 203 votes, while Morocco polled 65 in the vote of the FIFA Congress in Moscow which saw one member vote for "neither bid".

In qualification for the 2018 World Cup, the US surprisingly finished fifth in a group of six countries in the fifth round of qualification, only ahead of Trinidad & Tobago.

"So, basically NAFTA is hosting the 2026 World Cup". "There would be tens of thousands of global visitors that would be coming into the city, enjoying everything we have to offer", said Needle. For instance, Los Angeles may host the US opener, Dallas is mentioned as a candidate to host the semifinals, while the final match is expected to take place in Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, just outside of New York City. The bid book lists Arrowhead's total capacity as 76,640, but about 7,500 of those seats would be used for VIPs and media, leaving the stadium's capacity at just over 69,000 for the World Cup.

"We are honored to be a part of the USA bid package, and we believe Nashville has a legitimate shot at hosting a World Cup event".

Since the 2018 and 2022 tournaments were awarded to Russian Federation and Qatar respectively in December 2010, widespread corruption has been exposed in the global game, including allegations of bribery and payment for votes.

The majority of the 80 matches in the North American bid would be played in the United States, who hosted the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

The 2015 Women's World Cup was played on artificial turf, prompting a human rights complaint from a group of elite female players. Will it inspire interest in the game to the point where future generations of American players have the desire and ability to take the national team to another level?

The 2018 World Cup begins Friday across Russian Federation. For younger people, who don't remember the first and only time Canada participated in a World Cup, there's hope of seeing Canadian players take their place alongside giants of the sport.

A mix of dorms, residences and first-class hotels would be required for the pre-World Cup training venues, along with several natural grass fields that are nearby, and groomed to the highest worldwide standards.
