Samuel Umtiti extends Barcelona contract to 2023

France defender Samuel Umtiti has agreed to extend his contract with Barcelona for five more seasons, the club said on Sunday.

Umtiti is part of the France squad which will take part in the upcoming World Cup in Russian Federation, and scored in the friendly win over Italy on Friday night.

His talents have not gone unnoticed, with United boss Jose Mourinho an apparent admirer and was reportedly interested in bringing him to Old Trafford this summer.

Manchester United haven't been alone in pursuit of the player, with Real Madrid linked with a shock move for him as well. Transfer speculation soon arose, and it seemed to have an impact on the centre-back, who regressed as the campaign wore on.

"The Frenchman will be putting pen to paper on Monday at 10.00am CET in the Josep Suñol lounge at the Camp Nou".

"A great piece of news for the Barcelona fans, Samuel Umtiti will continue to wear the Cule shirt until 2023".

Umtiti will then give a brief press conference at theRicard Maxenchs press room at 10:30am before rejoining the France squad for their World Cup preparations.

During his two seasons at the club, he has made 83 appearances in all competitions, helping the club win La Liga once and the Copa del Rey twice. He'll sign his new deal in Barcelona on Monday and will likely join up again with Les Bleus shortly after.
