Sessions on border separations: 'We're doing the right thing'

Sunday evening, hours before her remarks in New Orleans, Nielsen posted a thread of tweets claiming preposterously that the Trump administration had no child separation policy for families detained at the US southern border. "Illegal entry is a crime as determined by Congress". The Trump administration's move to separate immigrant parents from their children on the U.S. -Mexico border has turned into a full-blown crisis in recent weeks, drawing denunciation from the United Nations, Roman Catholic bishops and countless humanitarian groups.

Advocates of the separations are arguing that hundreds of children are taken from parents who commit various crimes across the USA on a daily basis.

The Trump administration has chose to criminally prosecute any adult caught crossing the border illegally, as opposed to referring those with children mainly to immigration courts, as previous administrations did.

Members of the United Methodist Church from across the country signed a letter Monday accusing Sessions of child abuse, immorality and racial discrimination.

The US government has separated at least 2,000 children from parents at the border since implementing a policy that results in such family separations, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed Friday.

A bipartisan group of former USA attorneys have released a letter that calls for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to end his department's "zero tolerance" immigration policy.

Gregg Popovich meets with Kawhi Leonard in California
This comes on the heels of Leonard reportedly asking for a trade - preferably to somewhere in Los Angeles - out of San Antonio . Knowing Leonard won't re-sign with them in 2019 makes it hard for any other team to give up anything of value for Leonard.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions may have pointed to the Bible to defend the separation of children from their parents at the border - but now more than 600 members of his own denomination, the United Methodist Church, have slapped him with a formal complaint because of it.

The group of former US attorneys not only condemned the policy pushed by Sessions and President Donald Trump, but also questioned the wisdom of devoting limited federal resources to prosecuting every illegal entry case.

Earlier this year, after the "zero-tolerance policy" was implemented, a Honduran family arrived at the McAllen-Hidalgo port of entry to claim asylum after witnessing a cousin's murder by men dressed as police and being threatened by the killers to leave Honduras or "face consequences".

Almost 2,000 children were separated from their families over a six-week period in April and May after Sessions announced the new "zero-tolerance" policy that refers all cases of illegal entry for criminal prosecution. In recent weeks, the federal government has separated thousands of asylum-seeking children from their parents, and reclassified the protective status of global domestic violence survivors. The children are being held separately from parents who are being prosecuted under the administration's "zero-tolerance" policy for illegal border crossings.

"I find that offensive", Nielsen said Monday, responding to a reporter's question at the White House. Adults seeking asylum are sometimes not informed of the whereabouts of their children.

Prior to Trump assuming the role of president, anyone who brought a child with them across the border was given "immunity from prosecution". Roberts said that although he firmly supports enforcing immigration law, "I am against using parental separation as a deterrent to illegal immigration".
