Starbucks' Howard Schultz is stepping down as executive chairman ending an era

In an interview with The New York Times, he acknowledged that he may consider a bid for the White House.

Schultz, one of the most politically outspoken corporate leaders in America, has been rumored before as a potential Democratic candidate. And John Culver took on the role of group president of Starbucks Global Retail. New York Times recently asked Schultz about this, and while he wouldn't directly answer questions, he suggested that he hasn't ruled out a future in politics and public service.

He is also writing a book about Starbucks social impact work and the efforts to redefine the role and responsibility of a public company in an ever-changing society.

Starbucks was one of the first USA retailers to offer health insurance to its workers. In March, the company said it reached gender and race pay equity for all U.S. employees. He is leaving at a tumultuous moment in Starbucks' history. Starbucks closed all of its company-owned stores in the USA for four hours last week so employees could undergo racial bias training.

Schultz elevated the concept of Starbucks as the third place between home and work: a comfortable, welcoming environment that provides uplifting experiences, community and human connection.

Janet was supposedly tipped off to some alleged aggressive behavior displayed by Wissam, which concerned a nanny enough to alert Janet.

"But we have to start the conversation". The incident was a blow for Starbucks which had previously tried - with mixed success - to enter the racial inequality debate by having baristas write "Race Together" on its coffee cups. "I still believe so", said Douglas Kass, founder of hedge fund Seabreeze Partners Management Inc, who has a "short" position on Starbucks shares.

Schultz has said his vision for Starbucks was largely inspired by the coffee bars he saw on a visit to Milan many years ago.

"The American Dream can't be only accessible to people of privilege who are white and live in the right zip code", he said. But mostly, I sit here feeling a tremendous sense of gratitude.

In his letter, Schultz emphasized his roots, saying, "I still feel like a kid from Brooklyn who grew up in public housing" and that he'd "set out to build a company that my father, a blue-collar worker and World War II veteran, never had a chance to work for".
