Truex pulls away on final restart to win at Pocono Raceway

Before that, he ran down Harvick for the lead and playoff point with seven laps to go to take the stage win. And who won the pole for Daytona?

Fortunately for Busch, sandwiched between the two Pocono disappointments was a victory in the late summer race.

Johnson is 42 years old, Alex Bowman is 25, Elliott is 22 and William Byron is 20, making the average age at the start of the 2018 season 27.0. He also has finished in the top 4 in seven of the 11 races held this season.

Harvick sensed it was only a matter of time until the two top drivers this season had a 1-2 finish.

"We've also battled a lot more, I feel like, adversity on the racetrack than we did a year ago", Truex Jr. added.

"Even in practice, we were able to fire off real well on older tires, and I think that kind of gave us some optimism". Plus, Pearn said the auto still was good on scuffed tires. But rather, the burden comes from failing to bring home trophies for one of the most storied organizations in NASCAR history.

"I hit it too", Larson said. "Qualified third, I think we're really strong in race trim today".

Well Sunday's Pocono 400 victor might not exactly change your view of the domination that has permeated the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season.

On the ensuing restart on lap 151, Erik Jones was sent spinning down the front straightaway after contact from Joey Logano, putting the No. 20 auto into the inside wall with left-rear damage.

It's rare at Pocono for a driver to break through for his first career Cup victory.

In actuality, Custer is no stranger to the tri-oval. This time, clean air prevailed and Busch got beat by Martin Truex Jr. when his team made a decision to stay out on older tires. Stenhouse and Dillon, the 2018 Daytona 500 champion, each won again.

"I think three out of the four have definitely been the best", Larson said of Harvick, Busch and Truex. And each driver spent enough time in front - Harvick led 89 laps; Busch 13 - that a one-two finish at Pocono seemed nearly certain on the 2 1/2-mile track.

Trump issues a major statement against National Football League players refusing White House visit
The White House said that they would "loudly and proudly play the National Anthem" during the event reported the Hill. As a result, the victory party planned for later today no longer has the Philadelphia Eagles on the guest list.

The veterans aren't ready to pass the torch.

The 2015 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion lost this race past year when he chose to start on older tires late in the race and was eventually beat by Ryan Blaney who won earned his first career victory on fresher tires.

"The Chevrolets are kind of struggling as a whole", he said.

"I've known Brian [Wilson] a lot longer than Matt [Swiderski] and Mike Kelley so obviously I have a previous relationship there", Cindric said.

NASCAR plans to use the package again for the Xfinity cars next week at MI and at Indianapolis in September.

So who's next to crack the first-timer club? This package debuted last season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

"Erik Jones is running good and (Daniel) Suarez is running really well", Blaney said. The big thing is to not get caught up into racing somebody because two cars in front of you is going to create a huge hole to draft up to. They're gone and I can't. "It just needs to all work out for them".

Harvick and Busch have combined to win nine races this season.

"After the bad pit stop, I was like, here we go again".

But the wait goes on.

"Qualifying we had (that) snafu with that set of tires, and it got us set way behind starting 34th, but the guys brought me an incredible race auto", Almirola said.
