Trump adviser says 'nobody likes' family separation policy

Anger mounts against Trump over child separation policy

"I hate the children being taken away", President Trump said Friday.

With the fate of the legislation uncertain, Democrats are trying to focus attention on the separation policy as an example of what they call Trump's extremist approach to immigration.

Customs and Border Protection provided the document to CNN during a walk-through of a border processing center in McAllen, Texas, near the U.S. -Mexico border.

The Trump administration argues that the Flores settlement means children must be separated from their parents because they can not be held in custody with their parents who face prosecution for crossing the border illegally. Sessions openly admitted when announcing the policy that children would be ripped away from their parents. The cumulative effect is a dramatic adjustment of immigration policy and practice.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the plan in April, and expounded on it in May, saying his Department of Justice would partner with Homeland Security to prosecute anyone illegally crossing the southwest border and separate children from parents.

And now Trump faces the consequences.

The International Rescue Committee, a humanitarian aid group, said in response that "a policy of willing cruelty to those people, and using young sons and daughters as pawns, shatters America's strong foundation of humanitarian sensibility and family values".

On Twitter, Trump addressed what he specifically wants in new legislation including "full funding for the Wall;" an end to a diversity visa lottery and certain categories of family-based migration; and a shift toward "merit based immigration" for skilled workers.

'Democrats and Republicans have spoken out against the practice.

Under British law, cannabis is listed as a Schedule 1 drug, meaning that it is not recognised as having a therapeutic value. She said doctors in Canada and Northern Ireland who are familiar with Billy's case said the situation was life-threatening.

"Right now, we are in a circumstance where either we choose to enforce the law or we choose to ignore it", a DHS official said. Kirstjen Nielsen, the current Homeland Security secretary, has clashed privately with Trump over the practice, sometimes inviting furious lectures from the president that have pushed her to the brink of resignation. "No nation can have the policy that whole classes of people are immune from immigration law or enforcement", he said during an interview in his West Wing office last week.

Her comments follow growing controversy over President Donald Trump's "zero-tolerance" policy.

The fate of that bill is unclear, as the White House has sent mixed messages on whether Trump supports it or an alternative, more conservative immigration measure also expected to receive a vote.

The administration's critics are not buying that explanation.

Immigration on the southwest border has remained high since the zero-tolerance policies took effect. The administration has not been able to point to a statute that requires it, because no such statute exists.

Meanwhile, protesters marched to a tent city in Tornillo, Texas, holding hundreds of children separated from their parents.

"This was the bane of my existence for three years", Johnson said. To Colleen Kraft, this shelter looked, in many ways, like a friendly environment for children. "The morality of it was clear - that's not who we are".

"This must not be who we are as a nation", said Representative Jerrold Nadler, one of seven members of Congress from NY and New Jersey who met with five detainees inside the facility, including three who said they had young relatives removed from their care after seeking asylum at the border.
