Trump punches back at Robert De Niro

"I watched him last night and truly believe he may be 'punch-drunk'".

The Oscar-winning actor has starred in a number of boxing films, including Raging Bull, and he pulled no punches during the live television broadcast of Sunday night's Tony Awards. He delivered his response on his Twitter account while on his way back to the United States.

In fairness De Niro was pretty aggressive on the Tony stage, taking time away from the biggest awards show for Broadway with his curt, but pointed attack at the president.

This is not the first time he has referenced a ice-gun when addressing the tunnelling startup's future products on social media. The billionaire posted a warning to Twitter Saturday: "Please use as directed to avoid unintentionally burning things down".

While Trump didn't approve of De Niro's words, the audience sure did.

Others recalled De Niro's famous remark from the movie. He made it through University of Pennsylvania, so he was exposed to a quality education, but he's still an idiot'.

In probably the least surprising news ever, President Trump has responded to Robert De Niro's swipe at him from the stage of Sunday's Tony Awards.

Trump sent the tweets about De Niro from Air Force One as he returned from the meeting with Kim, according to CNN. "Wake up Punchy!" Trump wrote Wednesday morning, or Tuesday afternoon ET.

De Niro has been vocal of his disapproval of the Trump administration. On Monday, the actor apologized to Canadians for the "idiotic behavior of my president".
