Trump says Michael Cohen is not his lawyer

Michael Cohen and his attorney Thursday night asked a federal judge to issue an emergency gag order against Stormy Daniels' attorney Michael Avenatti, hoping to bar him from appearing on TV to advance his case.

Trump hours earlier had spent a few moments at the White House distancing himself from Cohen, who is facing an FBI investigation of his business dealings.

Federal authorities have recovered some records they seized from Michael Cohen's home and office in an April raid, and they're still working to recover others, according to a court filing that was filed Friday.

In a new court filing from the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Friday, it has now become clear why: Investigators have uncovered a large trove of documents and data that Cohen appears to have kept hidden.

Judge S. James Otero denied Cohen's ex parte application, saying that he has not demonstrated that he would suffer "immediate, irreparable injury" otherwise.

Cohen has said he paid Daniels out of his own pocket during the 2016 presidential campaign but has not explained why or if Trump was aware of the payment. When asked whether he's anxious that Cohen might cooperate with prosecutors, the president replied, "No, I'm not anxious because I did nothing wrong".

The letter reveals that investigators reconstructed 16 pages of Cohen's documents that had been shredded - indicating that they contained sensitive information he was trying to hide.

In response to a question about whether he and Cohen remained friends, the president said he had not spoken to Cohen in "a long time".

Trump Says He Won't Sign Compromise Immigration Bill
Trump said on Fox News' " Fox and Friends " that he is not planning to sign the negotiated measure. There is no special carve out for green cards or a pathway to citizenship.

'Most people will flip if the Government lets them out of trouble, even if it means lying or making up stories.

Avenatti called Blakely's request a "complete joke" and said he would vehemently oppose it.

"As this Court has probably already surmised, Mr. Avenatti's actions are mainly driven by his seemingly unquenchable thirst for publicity", the motion said.

The attorney claims Avenatti's behavior and statements about Cohen are unethical and threatens Cohen's ability to have a fair trial as it's turning the case into a "media circus".

This all adds up to an indication that major activity in Michael Cohen's case, and by extension, repercussions for Donald Trump, could be right around the corner.

Avenatti, naturally, took a victory lap on Twitter.

The cases is Clifford v. Trump, 18-cv-2217, U.S. District Court, Central District of California (Los Angeles).
