Trump will meet with House GOP Tuesday to discuss immigration

President Trump says he will not sign the immigration bill crafted by House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) if it reaches his desk. Only the compromise bill would open a door to citizenship for young immigrants brought to the USA illegally as children, and ease the separation of children from their parents when families are detained crossing the border - a practice that has drawn bipartisan condemnation in recent days. Many members were desperate to believe that the President had either been referring to another bill or would reverse course later in the day - while conservatives cheered the President as rightfully demanding changes to the bill.

"The GOP's in a tough spot", said Republican pollster Frank Luntz. Those items are included in the middle-ground package.

The administration's new zero-tolerance policy, which requires prosecution of people arriving illegally at the border, has driven up the number of immigrant children in government shelters in the almost two months since it began.

Trump also weighed in by tweet, writing that any bill "MUST HAVE" provisions financing his proposed wall with Mexico and curbing the existing legal immigration system.

"I hate the children being taken away", Trump told reporters at the White House later Friday.

President Donald Trump says he won't sign a "moderate" immigration bill written by House Republicans.

The President himself will have the opportunity to explain his views Tuesday evening at the House Republican conference meeting. "But this is the policy of the Trump administration", she told reporters. Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, would write the Obama-era DACA program into law, giving it more permanence, and would include a massive burst of enforcement measures, mandatory use of E-Verify, more Border Patrol agents and making overstaying a visa a crime. But under the new policy, all bets are off. Mothers can be separated from their children.

Administration officials said they do not like the family separations either - calling it the result of legal loopholes - but insist migrants who arrive illegally simply won't be released or loosely kept track of.

The chaos only added to GOP worries about the issue of immigration, which has split the party in two in the House.

The proposed fix won approval from moderate House Republicans locked in hard re-election battles, but not from Republican Senate candidates running competitive races in GOP-leaning states. "The president is fully committed to both of these bills". The new GOP bill would clarify that there's "no presumption that an alien child who is not an un-accompanied alien child should not be detained", effectively paving the way to keep families in detention for longer periods.

With what he said after the Iceland match and the fact he took the blame, you can expect a more engaged and eager club. Midfielder Christian Cueva missed a penalty for Los Incas to compound their misery.

Indeed, they are getting pressure from the right.

"I'm looking at both of them". "I certainly wouldn't sign the more moderate one. That's why we need more clarity".

Republicans won't get any help from Democrats, who appear unified in opposition. "I will tell you that nobody likes this policy". "What does it accomplish?"

In Massachusetts, Republican Gov. Charlie Baker reversed a decision to send a state National Guard helicopter to the southern border, citing what he called the administration's "cruel and inhumane" policy of separating children from their parents.

Trump called on Democrats to negotiate with Republicans on immigration policy to forge consensus and concede to his demand to build a wall - a campaign pledge that excited supporters but has been met with resistance in Congress. What damage? How can Trump be doing damage when the Republican-led Congress won't do anything other than offer amnesty?

The issue deeply divides Republicans, who are increasingly breaking with the administration over the zero-tolerance policy.

The Republicans who declined to comment or ignored AP questions included Senate candidates Patrick Morrisey of West Virginia, Josh Hawley of Missouri, Mike Braun of IN, and Matt Rosendale of Montana.

The interviewer had specifically asked whether Mr. Trump supported a conservative bill penned by Rep.

The controversial policy enacted by the White House had been meant to be a deterrent by persuading those who were considering trying to cross the border - even if they were seeking asylum in the U.S.by fleeing violence in their home country - not to do so.
