No human cases of West Nile virus have been identified in Manitoba at this time, the release said, and there are now no orders for adult mosquito control in the province.

Mosquitoes trapped on the South Shore of MA have been confirmed carriers of West Nile virus, health officials said.

Helicopter-based spraying was conducted in the same area early previous year, reducing the mosquito population temporarily, but "they have gone back up", according to the district. The reservoir (where the virus normally lives and multiples) is wild birds. Mosquitoes become infected by biting infected birds.

"This is not new", said Marquette County Health Director Terry Frankovich.

Outbreaks of the virus in humans and animals were recorded every year between 2010 and 2014 and in 2017 during the summer months in various regions of the country.

"Most people who become infected don't have any symptoms".

Symptoms include fever, headache, drowsiness, nausea and rash. Many people who survive will have mild to severe brain damage.
