Over the weekend , Trump aides on Sunday morning news shows called Trudeau a backstabber who deserved a "special place in hell". Ottawa has announced dollar-for-dollar retaliation on the USA imposition of steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada .

Trump had informed the Western allies of his plans to impose new tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, the European Union and Mexico.

The President ripped Trudeau on twitter over his "false statements" to the press; adding that he instructed his administration "not to endorse" a joint statement from the G7 countries following the contentious summit.

All lawmakers gave a standing ovation for the government's response to the Trump administration's verbal attacks on Trudeau.

"That's going to cost a lot of money for the people of Canada", Trump said.

"Look, countries can not continue to take advantage of us on trade".

Immediately after his remarks Saturday, Trump blasted Trudeau's statement as "dishonest & weak" on Twitter and announced the USA would not be signing the joint G7 communique - a symbolic but unprecedented move. And I'll tell you this: "to my friends in Canada, that was one of the worst political miscalculations of a Canadian leader in modern Canadian history".
