Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her partner Clarke Gayford have welcome their first child

Whether you couldn't care less about the arrival of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's baby or you're second-screening Tristram Clayton's live feed from outside Auckland Hospital, there are many questions to be answered about the pending arrival of baby Ardern-Gayford.

The PM's office says there will be no further formal announcements from the Prime Minister's office till Ardern and Gayford announce the birth of their baby.

Ms Ardern took office as New Zealand's third female prime minister past year and announced in January she was expecting a baby with her partner, television fishing show presenter Clarke Gayford.

As of 10am today there's been no word on Ms Ardern's status after she entered Auckland City Hospital at 5.50am with her partner Clarke Gayford.

Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters has taken over as acting prime minister.

Dow falls 350 points as trade war fears escalate
Many investors feel smaller and more USA -focused companies are less vulnerable in the event of a major trade dispute. Alarm bells rang across global markets as trade tensions between the United States and China escalated further.

Ardern has said that she will have six weeks maternity leave before heading back to parliament.

The only other comparable example was Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto giving birth to daughter Bakhtawar while in office, on January, 25 1990.

When Ms Ardern gives birth, she will be the world's first country leader, in modern times, to give birth while governing.

Ms Ardern, who was due to give birth on June 17, has not publicly revealed the sex of her baby.

Ms Ardern assured she would still be on call, and the government would be business as usual.
