1 dead, 9 injured as tour boat explodes in Bahamas

One person is dead and nine others were airlifted to hospitals in Florida and the Bahamas after a boat exploded on Saturday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard and Royal Bahamas Police Force.

The U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene, transporting injured Americans to St. Pete using an HC-130 Hercules helicopter from its Clearwater station.

Royal Bahamas Police Force spokesperson Chanta Knowles confirmed the explosion happened on a boat carrying 12 people - 10 Americans and two Bahamians - shortly after 9 a.m. on Saturday.

One American tourist was killed in the explosion, while two others are said to be in critical condition at a Bahamian hospital.

Ten people on board were injured and transported to the mini hospital in George Town.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force's Exuma branch are now investigating the incident. The names and conditions of the other victims have not been released.

Stefanie's mother, Stacey Schaffer suffered multiple broken bones and internal injuries.
