Amazon announces Prime Day 2018 with more than one million deals

However, the deals start today - 3 July - with Amazon launching its Prime Day Hub. Plus, the company is giving away a new Lexus.

Prime Day started in 2015 to mark Amazon's 20-year anniversary but has quickly turned into one of the biggest days of the year for the online retailer. The other three countries are Australia, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, which like Singapore, only recently landed Amazon's Prime and Prime Now services.

Amazon said for 2018 there will be double the deals on Amazon devices, up to 25 per cent off private labels such as AmazonBasics, up to 50 per cent off popular movies and TV shows, plus a free PC video game every day through July 18.

"We give members disproportional value", Ghani said.

Now in its fourth year, Prime Day has become a buzzy sales event the e-commerce giant can use to pump up revenue during the typically slow summer season.

However, the 23-times Grand Slam champion is considered by many - including herself - as the woman to beat at these championships. I definitely feel a lot less pressure out there, but I am a little bit shocked at how much I nearly want that pressure.

Along with being able to take part in the Prime Day sale, Amazon's premium service also includes extra benefits such as unlimited one-day and same-day delivery.

Amazon India saw over a million products being sold during the Prime Day previous year, which was the first such event the global company had held in the country after launching Prime in 2016.

But, with Amazon in April deciding to raise the annual cost of Prime in the U.S., its largest market, to $119 from $99, the company will have to work harder to draw in new customers. The company added that more than a million items were shipped to Canadians last Prime Day.

To entice new buyers and keep current members coming back, Amazon is introducing a handful of new features to this year's event.

In London, Amazon will host an entertainment extravaganza on Sunday 15th July - the eve of Prime Day.

Starting today, Amazon is running the new Alexa Home-Smart-Home Sweepstakes.

This list includes the new Delta Trinsic Touch2O, the first Alexa-enabled kitchen faucet; Coleman RoadTrip LXE portable propane grill; Fingerlings Light Up Unicorn Mackenzie; an Audible Original production, Hi Bob!, which has Bob Newhart sitting down with guests Sarah Silverman, Will Ferrell, Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy Kimmel, Judd Apatow and Conan O'Brien; an exclusive version of the Moto G6 64 GB, and more. The grand prize victor will get an Alexa-enabled 2019 Lexus ES. This year, a total of 17 countries will celebrate Prime Day.
