This is the first year that the grocery chain, which was acquired by Amazon late last year, will celebrate Prime Day.

Packages passed through a scanner, in August 2017, at an Amazon fulfillment center in Baltimore. Target announced that they too will be hosting a super-sale (what many call "Anti-Prime Day" deals) starting on July 17th, with some exclusive deals available now!

Amazon is gearing up for its annual Prime Day on July 16, but getting a deal that matches Black Friday prices isn't a certainty. Mobile users got the message: "UH-OH".

But if you choose to go via this route, keep in mind to cancel your membership before the 30-day trial ends to avoid being billed the full £79 annual fee.

It wasn't clear how widespread the outage was on one of Amazon's busiest days of the year, but the hiccups could surely mute sales and send shoppers elsewhere. A company spokesman didn't immediately respond to an email.

Update 1:30pm: Amazon's Prime Deals page now seems to be working from the desktop web site home page, and the "Shop All Deals" button has disappeared in favor of links to various shopping categories.

The fourth Prime Day (and a half) will begin noon PT Monday, extending for 36 hours.

While the deals on third party products may not be earth-shattering, Amazon usually slashes prices on its own devices, like the Alexa Smart Speaker, Fire stick streaming TV device and their line of Kindles. Notable ones to watch include and BestBlackFriday, which is tracking Prime Day 2018 prices with those of Black Friday 2017. Online furniture seller Wayfair introduced Way Day in April, becoming its biggest revenue day ever. And rivals also highlight their lack of membership fees, in contrast to Amazon, where prime members pay for access to benefits like free shipping on some items and access to music and media libraries. A Prime membership costs $119 annually.

"From Amazon's perspective, Amazon Prime members improve with age", said the firm's co-founder Mike Levin.

WHOLE FOODS IN THE MIX: The Seattle-based company is offering Prime members who spend $10 at Whole Foods from July 11-17 a $10 Amazon credit to use on Prime Day. Four new countries will be part of Prime Day this year: Australia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Singapore. That means you can pick up a PS4 Pro for nearly the same price as a standard PlayStation 4, which is no small thing when you compare the power running under the hood of both Sony's consoles.

It has become the firing gun for the start of back-to-school shopping, the second busiest shopping time of the year. And they're in the mood to buy: So-called conversion rates, an e-commerce metric that measures what share of site visits lead to a transaction, spike on Prime Day, according to the Salesforce Shopping Index.
