Belgium boss Roberto Martinez acknowledges that the five-time World Cup winners are favourites but his players are up for the challenge.

After Fernandinho's early own goal, De Bruyne doubled Belgium's lead just past the half-hour mark, firing a low, line drive into the side netting from a Romelu Lukaku assist after the Manchester United striker's marauding run through midfield.

They go out with their heads held high, though, after leaving everything on the pitch as they chased an equaliser in the last 14 minutes of the match in the wake of substitute Renato Augusto's fine headed goal.

Minutes later Augusto hung in the air to meet Coutinho's perfectly-weighted cross and direct it past Courtois to spark celebrations among the Brazilian fans in Kazan.

"We've achieved something that is really attractive", said Kevin De Bruyne, who scored Belgium's second goal, "and it's not easy".

They may have just booked their place in the World Cup semi-finals, but Thierry Henry and Eden Hazard were quickly on hand to comfort Neymar after Belgium beat Brazil.

De Bruyne easily ranks among the most talented players in the entire tournament―let alone Belgium's squad―but the midfielder hadn't been at his best for the Red Devils in a long time, dating all the way back to the loss against Wales at Euro 2016.

Malaysia's Mahathir to visit China for talks on projects
In May, Mahathir announced that Malaysia would withdraw from a high-speed rail project linking Kuala Lumpur with Singapore. It is created to be part of China's Belt and Road initiative to form a huge economic zone that spans Asia and Europe.

Four years ago at home they were humiliated with a 7-1 defeat in the semi-final to Germany.

But it was too late for Brazil to muster an equalizer as Courtois thwarted several efforts to force the game into extra time.

That set up the game nicely for a manic finish in which a clearly rattled Belgium failed to regain their attacking momentum.

Fortunately for the Selecao, Belgium has a poor record against South American sides at the World Cup. If the Belgian trio of Vincent Kompany, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen manage to contain the threat of Coutinho and Neymar in the upcoming match, Brazil might end up toothless in attack. But it was breached after 13 minutes in Tatarstan.

Brazil's World Cup title-less streak now stands at four tournaments, the drought a far cry from the team that went to three finals between 1994 and 2002, winning twice, or the Pele-led side that captured the trophy three times between 1958 and 1970.

"I think it's a game that when you are a little boy, you dream of being involved in a World Cup, facing Brazil in a quarter-final", he said, "so from our point of view we can enjoy from the first second". "In the last 15 minutes it was a character test and we showed the world what we are capable of".
