The deal between the Cubs and Rangers isn't yet official from either team.

"Did he just have a good Italian beef sandwich?" said Maddon, who couldn't see Epstein around the corner.

Hamels pitches Monday against the Athletics.

Cole Hamels is headed to the Chicago Cubs, pending medicals, sources confirmed. The Rangers will pick up a "significant amount" of Hamels' salary to complete the trade.

The Cubs struck a deal for Hamels as right-hander Yu Darvish's future remains uncertain because of an elbow impingement and as right-hander Tyler Chatwood's command issues put a great strain on the offense and bullpen to produce on days that he takes the mound.

He's enjoyed postseason success, too, being named the 2008 World Series MVP.

Palestinian media named the assailant as Ahmad Tareq Yosef Abu Ayoush, who reports said was 17-years-old. The shooting was the second such incident reported by the Israelis along the fractious border in days.

In 2015, Hamels threw a no-hitter against the Cubs on July 25th at Wrigley Field.

"I've not liked him for a long time", Maddon said with a smirk after the Cubs finished off Thursday's comeback with David Bote's tying homer in the ninth and Rizzo's walkoff two pitches later. He has got good stuff. "I have to rank him as a pretty competent left-handed pitcher".

Before Thursday's big finish against the Diamondbacks, Chatwood ran his major-league-leading walks total to 85 - 21 more than anyone else in baseball.

Hamels could be the final significant push for the Cubs as they try to secure the National League Central and align themselves for the playoffs with now the best record (60-42) in the league.

Hamels is 5-9 with a 4.72 ERA in 20 starts for the Rangers this season, but has been significantly better on the road than at Globe Life Park.

The dream was alive and well then, and Hamels hoisted it onto his shoulders as the Rangers went 10-2 in Hamels' 12 starts as a Ranger that season and overtook the Astros to win the AL West.
