If no other team bids a second-round pick, that team gets the player. It's not televised and the order is determined more like the NBA Draft than the normal NFL Draft. He gives NY a strong third option behind Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple. That team then loses a selection in the same round in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft. Kevin Johnson had his fifth-year option picked up but, he's been hurt frequently and plays too inconsistently. During that break, usually sometime in July, the league holds a Supplemental Draft.

The supplemental draft is typically for players who have had troubled pasts. The Giants, though, broke with that standard, rolling the dice to use a third-round pick to take Sam Beal, a highly regarded cornerback from Western Michigan. The Giants got good value by taking Beal. That means that the Giants will have to forfeit a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He did not attend spring practices before his ineligibility was announced and has received mixed reviews from those informed about the program. Scouts were concerned about his attitude in school, when he often failed to complete tasks and ran into academic trouble and at least one reported positive drug test for marijuana. Tomlinson signed a three-year extension last month. The team is now projected to receive four compensatory picks next year, including two sixth-rounders, mitigating the risk even more. He has played heavier than that measured weight, so that is not much of a concern.

Is this Sam Beal guy any good?

Additionally, he did not take academics seriously during his early time at Virginia Tech, leading to persistent academic issues over his college career. Ogwoegbu was suspended indefinitely by Oregon State during the spring due to undisclosed reasons.

The Player: Ugwoegbu has a tough road ahead of him. He has experience playing in several spots, including off the edge and in the nickel, so it gives coaches something to work with when projecting what he'll do in the NFL.

Bryant is an impressive athlete, running a 4.45 40-yard dash and posting a 34-inch vertical. The team signed Sam Irwin-Hill to serve as a backup punter and since that time, they have kept him on the 90-man roster.
