Djokovic 'overwhelmed' after downing Nadal in Wimbledon classic

Novak Djokovic wants to be on the same level as Federer and Nadal- Becker

Novak Djokovic wants to be on the same level as Federer and Nadal- Becker

People don't sit and watch four, five hours of tennis. No other sport calls on a single person to exert such energy-both mental and physical-for as long a time as tennis does.

But only one of these men can move through to take on Anderson tomorrow, and they will resume today, when ticket holders for the women's final will get an unexpected treat.

Resilience has been the trademark of the Serbian.

The level of play during this feast of gorgeous tennis was of the highest calibre.

"It really could have gone either ways", said Djokovic, who is bidding for a fourth championship at the All England Club and 13th Grand Slam title overall. Anderson advanced Friday with a 7-6 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-7 (9), 6-4, 26-24 victory over John Isner - a match that took 6 hours, 36 minutes to play, a record for a Wimbledon semifinal.

But he has little time to rest his aching body before facing Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal in Sunday's final. "I've just beaten the best player in the world in one of the best games we have ever taken part in".

Anderson will now attempt overturn a losing record against both Nadal (5-0) and Djokovic (5-1).

Until Friday, he had not dropped serve until Anderson halted that run at 110 service games in the third set. The entire top-five at the end of 2016 - Andy Murray, Djokovic, Milos Raonic, Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori - have all spent large chunks of the past year or so on the sidelines.

Djokovic led the match by two sets to one when play was suspended for the evening at just after 11pm.

Pacquiao improved his record to (60-7-2) after stopping his opponent in the seventh round of their fight. Manny Pacquiao proves he can still slug it out. "You win some, you lose some", Matthysse said.

Djokovic began to grow increasingly agitated as Nadal broke back to 7-7, screaming up towards his box before the Spaniard aced him for the game. In a first-round Wimbledon match in 2010, Isner battled Nicolas Mahut in a fifth set that dragged out three days, finally ending in Isner's favor, 70-68.

The Serb concurred with his former coach: "The final is an incredible achievement for me considering what I've been through". "People who saw the match here, it was very clear that very few things separated the two players". I believed it, but I knew he was close and had chances. Crucial though will be how well the 31-year-old can recover in time for the summit. The same goes for his opponent, World No 8 Anderson.

It's hard to believe the quality of Sunday's men's final won't be diminished by the unusual circumstances of the semifinals that preceded it.

Novak Djokovic strains to return a shot during his 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (11-9), 3-6, 10-8 victory over Rafael Nadal. "It's been a roller-coaster ride for him".

Anderson will be playing in his second Major final after losing to Nadal at Flushing Meadows previous year.

However, he says he is unsure whether he can described as the favourite to beat Anderson.

"I'm a proponent of changing that rule, for sure", Isner said. "He's definitely playing the tennis of his life".

The two obvious angles are set and game handicap lines, with Djokovic 3-0 and Djokovic -5.5 games the considerations. I don't think he has much to lose.

And there's going to be more of this because there are a lot of taller guys coming up with big serves and on grass we are going to get longer and longer matches.
