Formula One: Hartley unhurt after high speed crash

Toro Rosso driver Brendon Hartley escaped unscathed after a scary crash during the third free practice session at the British Grand Prix, on Saturday.

This is not the first time Toro Rosso has been in the headlines for such an unlikely event. The machine spun and went into the gravel crashing with the barrier.

Fortunately, he was able to get on team radio to confirm his well-being and was able to step out of the vehicle.

As a precaution, Toro Rosso kept Hartley's teammate Pierre Gasly in the garage for the rest of the session as it worked on understanding what had happened.

Early in the free practice session, as it was running down Silverstone's Wellington straight, Hartley's STR13 suffered a complete front-left suspension failure under braking that violently pitched the auto into the barriers.

"What a scary experience for Brendon Hartley", said his former WEC team-mate, Sky F1's Anthony Davidson, who added that the car's safety features "did their job" upon impact.

Upon replays it was clear the crash was through no fault of Hartley's own.

With only two hours to go until qualifying starts, the Red Bull junior team face a race against time to get Hartley's vehicle ready.
