Google releases Beta 3 of Android P

The first Android P release candidate is now available

Google has released the fourth Developer Preview (DP) of Android P for the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL.

A theme throughout the main keynote, Digital Wellbeing was best showcased at the tail end of Android P's unveil. This feature will let users keep a tab of their smartphone usage. The Android maker has also released factory images and OTA zip files to help users manually install the fresh security patch on their respective devices. It looks like Google will only roll out this feature with the final build of Android. Google has now added a new setting "Device theme" under the Display section with three options- Automatic (based on wallpaper), Light and Dark. Meanwhile, Shush will automatically enter DND when a phone is turned over.

The first chance to smoke out use of those interfaces before Android P debuts probably tips this release over into something of decent importance for many Android developers.

Former Malaysian premier Najib to be charged Wednesday in graft probe
Red Granite agreed in March to pay the USA government $60m to settle claims it benefited from the 1MDB scandal. Alleged corruption at the 1MDB fund helped bring on the unexpected defeat of Najib's coalition in May 9 polls.

Among the key updates this time out are finalized APIs so developers can start testing and building apps for the new version of the software. Those running the public beta on their Pixel devices should also get an update with the July Android security patch on their phones.

However, given that Digital Wellbeing is an OS-level feature, Google could take a launch approach similar to the Pixel 2. Android 8.1 Oreo with July security patches and Android P Beta 3 are now rolling out.

Provided you have a compatible device, you can sign up for the Android Beta Program here. "It's a great way to test your apps now to make sure they are ready before the final release", the company writes.
