Bumrah is now the number one ranked bowler in ODIs and his absence will come as a big blow for India. Thakur, who has impressed with his variations, will be crucial for India's chances in ODI series.

The BCCI also said that Bumrah, 24, underwent surgery on Wednesday and has returned to India for rehabilitation.
