The room erupted when Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic scored the game-winner in extra time, dashing England's hopes of a shot at its first World Cup since 1966.

It all looked peachy for the Poms early, when right-back Kieran Trippier put in a sizzling free kick from close range - his first ever goal at worldwide level.

Manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed all 23 of his players are fit and ready to go.

The tabloid also hit out at England for trying to seemingly equalise while Croatia were celebrating what proved the victor from Mario Mandzukic.

Trippier's set piece on five minutes was England's 12th at Russian Federation 2018, more than any other Three Lions side.

World Cup semi-final opponents England and Croatia's fines over sponsorship protocols are both approximately 10 times the fine that the Russian soccer federation was hit with after its fans were seen unfurling a banner featuring neo-Nazi messaging.

Vrsaljko was not the only one to twist the knife, as midfielder Luka Modrić also tore into England, English journalists, and English pundits on television.

And from the resulting free-kick, Alli's Spurs team-mate Trippier sumptuously found the top-right corner.

But he is yet to fully convince and win the trust of everyone, and is still susceptible to occasional errors, highlighted by his stray pass that allowed Russian Federation a chance to go clear on goal in the closing minutes of the quarter-final.

England got carried away with talk of the final, insists Roy Keane
The spat came after Keane claimed his English co-pundits "got ahead of themselves" by daring to dream about football coming home. The former Manchester United player is being ridiculed for his orange glow online, with supporters comparing him to Umpa-Lumpas.

Of course, the referee called the play back and made them retake the kick-off.

Finally things came together for Croatia at the other end soon after, as Perisic met Sime Vrsaljko's deep cross with a flying left-footed finish.

The Three Lions fully deserved their first half lead and the only disappointing aspect was that they didn't go into the interval further ahead.

Perisic came close again and Mandzukic had a shot saved by Pickford as Croatia pressed for the victor but it wasn't to come and the game headed into extra-time.

Croatia has advanced to its first-ever World Cup final in men's soccer.

It was England's best performance at a major tournament since Southgate was part of the team that reached the semi-finals at Euro '96.

Croatia is into the World Cup final!

Jesse Lingard brilliantly found Dele Alli on the edge of the box, and when the Spurs man was fouled it presented a flawless opportunity for either Trippier or Ashley Young to take an early pot at goal. Mandzukic scored the winning goal in the 2-1 decision in the second half of extra time.
