Kenyan beauty queen sentenced to death for murder

Justice Lesiit in May ruled that Ruth Kamande, 25, killed Farid Mohammed in cold blood after stabbing him 25 times following a domestic dispute in Buru Buru estate, Nairobi county. The Judge held that Kamande acted in malice and showed no remorse for her actions in the course of the trial.

The 2016 Miss Lang'ata Prison, had pleaded with the court to spare her life, saying she had reformed and regretted killing her boyfriend.

According to the beauty queen, the argument got out of hand, when she discovered written letters from two other women.

She noted that despite the Supreme Court finding the death penalty unconstitutional in a decision it rendered in December a year ago, the punishment was still enshrined in statutes.

"Instead, it is cool to walk away and thereafter to forgive".

The judge also that Ms Kamande had not shown remorse and killed with a goal of inflicting pain.

She said the stab wounds were not consistent with her allegations that her former boyfriend had pinned her down as they fought, observing that the wounds were inflicted at intervals and not by a person in a lying position.

Burgess was in court Wednesday and The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified, authorities said. The sheriff then addressed the heat in a vehicle without air conditioning and the responsibility of a parent.

Speaking to reporters following the sentencing, the victim's aunt, Emmah Wanjiku said the family was glad justice had finally been served.

"We want to confirm to Kenyans that there is justice in our courts".

The death sentence remains on the statute books however.

Kamande had in her defence stated that her boyfriend had raped her, knowing well that he was HIV-positive, and that he had attempted to kill her.

Earlier, Ms Kamande's lawyer had urged the court to give her a lenient sentence arguing that she had "established a close relationship with God" since she was taken into custody in 2015.

"He had just started his job when his life was cut short".
