Kushner security clearance limits his access to some U.S. secrets

Kushner, who was named by Trump as a senior adviser on a wide range of issues, was granted a permanent security clearance in late May, but only at the "top secret" level, a status that does not provide access to closely guarded intelligence, the Post said, citing the two sources.

He is still unable to access information limited to a higher level of clearance, known as "sensitive compartmented information", or SCI, which includes some of the information contained in the president's daily intelligence briefing about ongoing operations.

This prevents Kushner from viewing parts of the President's Daily Brief, a top-secret intelligence document provided to the president each morning. Soon after Trump and Kushner moved in, hundreds of LGBTQ protestors gathered outside of their home in a "dance party" protest to "send the clear message that our climate and our communities matter", according to a Facebook page titled "Queer Dance Party for Climate Justice at Ivanka Trump's House!"

Kushner, the president's son-in-law and senior adviser, has a number of duties within the White House, including developing a plan for peace in the Middle East. It is unclear why the Central Intelligence Agency is refusing to elevate his designation and whether it has anything to do with his involvement in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Probe.

Jared Kushner lacks the security clearance level required to review some of the government's most sensitive secrets, according to two people familiar with his access.

Asked about the Post story, White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters told Reuters the White House did not comment on security clearances. Mark Zaid, a Washington lawyer who specialises in security clearances, said: "I think it would severely hamper his ability to do his job".

Trump shares letter from Kim, touts progress in talks
Pompeo said just before leaving Pyongyang last Saturday that the meeting was set for July 12, but "could move by one day or two". President ", hailing the summit as the "start of a meaningful journey" toward warmer relations between the US and North Korea .

In May, Kushner's supporters pointed to his ability to gain a permanent high-level security clearance as a sign that he faces no legal jeopardy from the probe led by Mueller.

Kushner attorney Abbe Lowell did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In extreme cases, the president can override things and say 'I want him here for this meeting.' " As president, Trump has the authority to declassify information.

Mueller is reportedly examining Kushner's meetings with Russian officials in 2016.

Ivanka also drew negative attention about the "zero tolerance" policy when she visited a school in Syracuse, New York, on Monday.

In February, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly downgraded the interim clearance of Kushner and several White House officials to "secret" after revelations that dozens of staffers were awaiting permanent security clearances and working for months with temporary approvals to handle sensitive information.
