Free agency officially begins at 12:01 EST on Sunday morning.

LOS ANGELES- The so-called Summer of LeBron is off to a big start.

Meanwhile, James continues talking with various teams, including his Cavaliers home.

To say the first day of July is going to be insane would be a huge understatement since teams across the National Basketball Association, including the Philadelphia 76ers, are anxious to see what LeBron James decides to do for the 2018-19 season.

A source close to James said James would not be involved with any of these initial meetings with team, so perhaps it was a small feather in Cleveland's cap that James at least hopped on the phone with Altman. But it's not all that surprising. Sure, it isn't as good as meeting with LeBron himself, but James has made it pretty clear that he doesn't want to be wooed by front-offices going insane in a meeting with him. They can't sign with other teams for several days. But the All-Star forward opted to stick with the Thunder and will sign a four-year deal when teams are permitted to finalize contracts on June 6.

A source familiar with the Cavs' thinking said re-signing James is Cleveland's "Plan A, B and C" when it comes to free agency.

With some savvy moves, the Lakers are poised to potentially add two superstars - James and Paul George and maybe Kawhi Leonard - to a team featuring up-and-coming talents like Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball, who is reportedly dealing with a knee injury.

James has not announced a formal decision on his next free-agent destination, and the Lakers could still be at or near the top of his list, despite a recent surge from Philadelphia and LeBron's hometown Cavaliers.

The Cavs, on the other hand, have been mostly operating in the dark.

Up until today, the Lakers looked like the clear front-runners to get LeBron.

James was on a plane that flew into Van Nuys Airport near Los Angeles on Saturday.

For now, though, he's not attached to anyone.
