The separate photos are then stitched together into a single 64-megapixel shot. It's now working on a smartphone.

However, even with that many lenses on the rear, The Washington Post reports that the prototype handset is no thicker that an iPhone X. It remains to be seen how these nine or five lens systems will be implemented and whether the smartphone's camera will deliver on the result, given it will require the kind of processor which can support such high quality image processing. The L16 finally entered production over a year ago, but now there's word that Light is working on bringing its multi-lens tech to a smartphone.

Light showed the publication various concept phones and prototypes that had between five and nine lenses incorporated onto their backs. The company also claims the phone will be able to capture 64MP shots, give high-quality depth effects, and a better low-light performance than any regular smartphone with its dual or triple camera sensor. As the Washington Post notes, priced at $1950, the L16 certainly isn't cheap. Light's standalone 16-lens camera costs $1,950.

Leftist Lopez Obrador claims landslide victory in Mexico presidential race
Lopez Obrador told voters that he is the person for the job. "I think he is going to try and help us with the border", he said. Stocks also slipped, along with the country's dollar-denominated notes.

There are less camera units on the phone equivalent but plenty of other tech inside. It had everything going for it: a boss who knows Android through and through, given that he was its cofounder; big aspirations for both mobile and smart home ecosystems; and a pretty slick, if a little flawed, smartphone. A lot of factors played in that unsuccessful first attempt, but the main thing is that the smartphone landscape is hard to break into at the moment.

However, the Light smartphone claims to take it further.
