Max Verstappen dreams of title glory after Red Bull's home win

JUNE 28 Lewis Hamilton of Great Britain and Mercedes GP looks on in the Paddock during previews ahead of the Formula One Grand Prix of Austria at Red Bull Ring

While most teams pitted early during the virtual safety vehicle due to debris on the track Mercedes didn't bring Hamilton in and when he pitted Red Bull took the lead of the race with Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo leading a one-two.

Bottas, victor in Austria past year from pole, also agreed that the updates were working well.

The Finn temporarily slipped behind Verstappen and Raikkonen for fourth, but made his way back past both drivers with a daring move around the outside of Turn 4 on the first lap.

"With three DRS zones in the race, hopefully we can have better pace tomorrow and put on a good show for our home fans". As always, he was brutally honest with himself and with everyone and we could have all done a better job this weekend.

"I know they have been working hard", Hamilton told reporters.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkon took second place and Sebastian Vettel in P3. "I anticipate it being probably one of the closest qualifying sessions that we've had this season".

Vettel leads the title race with 146 points ahead of Hamilton on 145, Raikkonen on 101 and Ricciardo on 96.

The German's fastest lap in practice suggested Ferrari caught up with the upgraded Mercedes cars. He says his gearbox had lost hydraulic pressure, which was very disappointing.

For Bottas, his retirement from a race he won last year was another bitter blow, especially having beaten Hamilton to pole, and especially after the disappointment of Baku earlier in the year, where he lost an nearly certain win to an unlikely late puncture.

Hamilton struggled so much that he was forced to make a second pitstop.

State warns of West Nile virus activity
People over the age of 50 are reportedly more likely to develop serious symptoms of West Nile if they do get sick. Wear long-sleeved shirts and long trousers and use bug repellent with an active ingredient of DEET or picaridin.

Hamilton said that will have no bearing on the outcome this weekend and forecast a ferocious scrap for pole position.

"It's not really something I want to speak about", added the world champion.

"This is a great result for the team, and Valtteri deserves that", he insisted. "It had gone relatively well through the weekend". It's been a good day in terms of testing and getting things done that we had planned to do.

"We do have three DRS zones but I'm not really sure it make a big enough difference".

Lewis Hamilton said his problem-strewn Austrian Grand Prix was "the worst race I can remember for a very, very long time".

"The track is the same as previous year".

Situated in Central Austria's countryside, the track includes inclines of up to 12 per cent. The Dutch driver was ordered to overtake him by team radio, but refused to follow instruction.

"It was unbelievable, very hard to manage the tyres, lot of blistering, but we managed to hang on", said Verstappen of Red Bull's first win at the circuit they own.

Carlos Sainz was ninth for Renault ahead of Monegasque Charles Leclerc‚ who delivered another impressive run for Sauber before he‚ too‚ was hampered by a power failure on his final out lap. The Monaco-born driver posted the 13th quickest time but will have to start from 18th following a grid penalty.

Lap 8: Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen reports on team radio that he drove over some rubble on Turn 3.
