Conor McGregor lands heavyweight sculpture for 30th birthday

Socks? Bandages? A new shelf for his trophy cabinet?

Conor McGregor is to get a hyper realistic statue for his landmark birthday this Saturday courtesy of Birmingham-based artist Aspencrow.

The sculpture depicts the soon-to-be 30-year-old fighter bursting out of a block of marble, as it reportedly took Aspencrow five months to handcraft the 100kg piece from photographs alone.

"He is a phenomenon of our time - not just a smart athlete", Askelovic said.

Born in Dublin in 1988, McGregor rose to become one of the biggest stars in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA).

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov would like to fight Conor McGregor or Georges St-Pierre next.

Last August, he switched to boxing to fight Floyd Mayweather.

If you're in London at that time for whatever reason, the sculpture will be on display at the JD Malat Gallery from 14 July to 30 September.

Edgar, known as Aspencrow, told the BBC he had been inspired by McGregor's "strong character".

"You know what? I'm not even thinking about Conor until".

"It's really phenomenal. And, of course, someone chose to immortalize it in this way".

The artist admits that he hasn't actually spoken to McGregor directly, but has been communicating with him through a friend.

Aspencrow's work appears to show McGregor encased or entombed in solid rock, suggesting perhaps he is a captive of his fame - and notoriety. As for my sculpture, in it everyone will see what you want. "He's a great guy", Aspencrow continued. "I feel he's my soulmate". Without bus, without other things, we just have to fight but I don't think the UFC can make the decision about this fight.

McGregor turns 30 on July 14 and is likely to celebrate big like he has in the past.
