Munich airport closes terminal following security breach

Around 200 flights were canceled on Saturday after authorities at Munich Airport temporarily closed Terminal 2 following a security breach.

The temporary shuttering of the terminal comes amid a busy summer travel period, with this weekend marking the beginning of Bavaria's six-week summer vacation period.

Munich federal police said in a tweet they shut down parts of terminal two looking for the unidentified woman.

According to the Express, the terminal was shut between 7.47am and 12.44pm GMT while police officers were conducting their investigations.

It remains unclear whether the passenger in question has been located by police.

Airport operator Flughafen Muenchen GmbH confirmed in a press release flights resumed at 1pm GMT (2pm CET).

Bavarian police said an unknown woman entered a secured area without going through security checks. She has not been taken into custody and is still at large, but said she is not considered an "extreme danger".

Paula Vilen added: "Security issue at Munich airport, all passengers are sent out from terminal 2". Officials try to find this person now.

Another social media user, Brian Lorenzen, added: "Absolute madness at Munich Airport due to Terminal 2 security breach".

According to reports, all passengers will be forced to go through security again - creating a huge backlog when flights resume.
