Obama says world should resist cynicism over rise of strongmen

African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Mandela's widow Graca Machel were among the guests from Obama's speech - his highest-profile address since leaving office.

In his remarks, Obama sought to explain the present political moment, which he called "strange and uncertain". Some Democrats say he should play a more direct role. "Now they just keep on lying!"

These movements, Obama said, have struck a chord among "people living outside the urban core who feel like security is slipping away, their social status and privileges eroding, their cultural identities threatened by outsiders". Obama urged the wealthy to pay more in taxes: "Let me pay more in taxes!"

Whether voters and politicos around the world will embrace Obama's message, agenda and policies is unclear. "Not all of those folks looked like Gauls to me, but they are French".

IQbusiness says the person taking the tour can control the entire experience, including how long they take to finish it. He said that it was "not wrong" to insist that national borders matter, but that it can't be an "excuse" to implement immigration policies "based on race or ethnicity or religion".

When Obama was a USA senator, he had his picture taken with Mandela.

In the wake of the 2016 presidential campaign, Obama was criticized for not speaking out more forcefully about Russia's attempts to interfere in the election. Who would've run against him? The 4 Liberians: Hh Zaizay, Gbovadeh Gbilia, Jarius Greaves and Mlen-Too Wesley joined 196 young leaders from 43 other African countries to benefit from a yearlong leadership development and civic engagement programs aimed at training, supporting, and connecting emerging African leaders as a means creating positive change in their communities. "You need minority rights, checks and balances, freedom of speech and an independent judiciary".

Obama delivers Mandela address in expected rebuke to Trump

Democracy is messy, he said, "but the efficiency of an autocrat is a false promise". These days "we see much of the world threatening to return to a more unsafe, more brutal, way of doing business", he said. But he added that it is "right for the U.S.to insist on reciprocity" when it comes to countries that are no longer poor, like China, suggesting the US should tell China to "stop taking intellectual property and stop hacking our servers".

And he drew laughter from the crowd with the line: "Politics today seems to reject the very concept of objective truth - people just make stuff up". Without facts, there's no basis for cooperation.

"If I say this is a podium and you say this is an elephant, it is going to be hard for us to co-operate".

In a clear reference to Mr. Trump's repeated claim that climate change is "a hoax", Mr. Obama said it is impossible to "find common ground" if a politician ignores the consensus of nearly all scientists.

Nor did this young boy realise that later on in his life when he was in prison, he would encourage a young Obama to re-examine his priorities to begin his fight to "strong arm the world to justice". Just as people spoke about the triumph of democracy in the '90s, now you're hearing people talk about the end of democracy and the triumph of tribalism and the strongman. We have to resist that cynicism.

He warned that denying basic facts could destroy democracy, but also sounded a note of hope, saying: 'We've been through darker times.

Fans, players react to DeRozan-Leonard trade
ESPN reports that the Spurs want an All-Star caliber player, high-potential young players and draft assets in any Leonard deal. President Masai Ujiri has rolled the dice on this and will hope to sell Leonard on a long-term future in Canada.
