Officer Who Didn’t Step In When Woman In Puerto Rico Shirt Was Harassed Resigns

Forest Preserves of Cook County officer Patrick Connor resigned late Wednesday while officials investigate his response to a woman who said she was being harassed for wearing a shirt with the Puerto Rican flag.

"But that isn't where our work ends", they said in a statement, adding: "We are further addressing aspects of this incident". The video, posted on Facebook, has been viewed more than 1.2 million times. Trybus was arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct.

My wife and I wanted to let her know that we support her and we admire her.

The officer has been identified as Patrick Conner of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County Police Department, So an older racist yells at a young Latina because he doesn't like what she and other Puerto Ricans living in "his" community he says represent.

I just hope that we all are as poised as Ms. Irizarry was if and when someone gets in our face; whether for wearing a pussy hat, or a hijab, a rainbow flag or a black lives matter t-shirt.

The video of the June 14 encounter at the Caldwell Woods forest preserve in Chicago went viral, showing a man harassing Mia Irizarry, 24, for her choice of clothing, and asking if she's a citizen.

Puerto Rico is a US territory and its residents are USA citizens, yet Trybus, who is white, told Irizarry that "if you're an American citizen, you should not be wearing that".

Despite Connor's resignation, the forest preserve district says officials continue to investigate the incident.

May's strife? Tánaiste sees it as 'good week for Brexit'
The resignation comes less than a day after Brexit Secretary David Davis and his junior minister Steve Baker stepped down . Former leader Lord Howard said a bid to oust Mrs May would be "extremely foolish and extremely ill-advised".

"You are not going to change us, you know that, right?" I do not feel comfortable with him here.

'If she's an American citizen, why is she wearing that s**t?' Trybus shouts. Other officers eventually arrived and arrested the man. "You don't come here harassing people", she says.

Puerto Rico is a U.S. commonwealth with its own constitution, rather than a state.

Even Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló weighed in, saying on Twitter that he was "appalled", and that "a Puerto Rican woman was brutally harassed by a bigot while an officer did not interfere".

'He failed to deescalate the situation and therefore did not ensure a citizen's safety'.

The video elicited strong reactions and there have been calls for the officer in the video be fired.

'We can not allow those who do not understand America's greatness to terrorize people due to their background.
