Personal belongings of Neil Armstrong, the first astronaut who landed on the moon, put up for sale at auction house Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas.

A Purdue University, Mr Armstrong's university, Centennial 1869-1969 silk flag brought by him to the Moon, pieces of a wing and prop from the Wright Brothers Leaflet which he took with him on Apollo 11, along with a gold pin from Gemini 8, Mr Armstrong's very first spaceflight, and his Boy Scouts Cap.

The Apollo 11 mission launched four days prior to its landing, from the Kennedy Space Center at 9.32am (Eastern Daylight Time [EDT]), with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin aboard the rocket that would make history.

Neil Armstrong died in OH in 2012 at the age of 82 and his family has turned to Heritage Auction of Dallas to sell items from the astronaut's estate. These medals were commissioned by the Apollo crew themselves and were flown to space during all the Apollo missions, including Apollo 11. "He did save all the items, so he obviously felt they were worth saving".

Neil Armstrong dies in 2012 in his native OH. after his death, his sons faced the responsibility of conserving, preserving and securing irreplaceable items and honoring their father's legacy. "You show somebody something from the space program, and they are fascinated by it".
