Manchester City midfielder Leroy Sane will be seeking a big season after missing out on the German squad for the World Cup

City have bolstered their squad further following their record-breaking exploits last season as they aim to become the first team to retain the league title since Manchester United in 2009.

The Egypt global, who was Liverpool's top scorer last season with 44 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions, suffered a shoulder injury in the club's Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid in May.

Salah was introduced as a second-half substitute in Liverpool's International Champions Cup clash against City in the United States and the 26-year-old levelled the scores nearly immediately before forward Sadio Mane scored the victor.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola spoke to reporters last night, and responded when asked what his views are on Liverpool's big spending this summer, as quoted by Goal.

Manchester City midfielder Douglas Luis left battles over the ball with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze

"For the last 15 minutes, we were so exhausted". I look to the other side.

I completely understand. I am not concerned about what one of us said one day and the circumstances. He had a big impact together with Sadio and Dom [Solanke], and the midfield with Marko [Grujic], Pedro [Chirivella] and Ben [Woodburn] played fantastic. We're going to see how many we have against Chelsea [in the Community Shield].and in what condition they will be, we will see. "We only need to keep on working and make sure that in two weeks we have fresher legs than tonight". I am so proud and I am so happy to be manager of these guys for that reason. 'The game for us was important but it's not a sign of the direction.

Meanwhile, there was special praise coming for 21-year-old centre-back Nathaniel Phillips, who also impressed as a substitute, with supporters on social media tipping the former Bolton man for first-team football this season alongside Virgil Van Dijk.

"It's only a game we played and a lot of good moments which we can use and a lot of bad moments we can work on".
